Solar PV Power
We have teamed up with a national MCS accredited solar PV panel installer, established since 2009, to provide advice about solar photovoltaic installation and how it can help to save you money and reduce carbon emissions. Please see our information and case studies below.
If you would like a personal quotation, which we aim to keep competitive, please use the contact form on this page, or contact us to speak directly about Solar Panels for your home or business.
Domestic Solar PV
A solar photovoltaic (PV) system works using an array of panels, typically mounted on the roof. Each solar panel is made up of photovoltaic cells that are wafer-thin layers of silicon with a dark blue/black colour to them.
How does Solar PV Work?
When the sun comes out and any level of daylight reaches the PV cells
it creates an electric field. A higher concentration (brighter)
sunlight produces more electricity. The panel then takes the DC
(direct-current) rated electricity to an inverter, which converts it
into AC (alternating-current) electricity ready for use.
With a domestic solar PV system installed, the power generated with your panels will be utilised to power your own appliances, making a lot of the power you use during the day free of charge. If you use more energy during the day than you produce at night time, power will be automatically drawn from the national grid.
Utilising Solar PV
Solar PV systems cannot store electricity, so to ensure you are getting the most value out of your solar panel it is advised that you use any electricity intensive appliances such as washers and driers during the day, to preventing you from selling your electricity during the day only to buy it back again later in the night.
Feed-in Tariff Income
Solar PV is a great investment for the future; it helps save you from high cost energy bills and protects you against rising fuel prices. It also generates a tax-free income through the government’s feed-in tariff.
Solar PV in Business
Solar PV system use by Businesses and Corporations has sky-rocketed since the feed-in tariff (FIT) was introduced by the government 2010. The scheme pays a set rate for every unit of electricity generated by your Solar Panels, giving businesses typical returns of up to 10-13%.It’s a huge incentive and we help you make the most of it; during our survey we suggest suitable solar panels and additional system components. This allows us to streamline your costs enabling you to maximise your return on investment (ROI) from your Solar PV System. We are able to complete the Feed-in-tariff (FIT) application on your behalf of your company so you don’t have to!
Solar PV Installation Benefits
Installing a solar PV system is a great way of reducing your energy bills; by using the free electricity that is generated you are not drawing it from the power grid meaning you do not pay your provider. Typically most business installations have a PV system allowing the company to cover the annual daytime electricity consumption protecting your business from rising fuel costs in the long term.
Commercial Solar PV Payouts
By combining Feed-in-tariff (FIT) payments with your energy bill savings, we aim to provide an electricity supply that will pay for itself and cover bills for the next 25 years. Carbon savings from the green electricity being generated can also be an added bonus if you are trying to meet Part L regulations for new or existing non-domestic buildings whilst allowing you to promote the public image of your company by becoming environmentally friendly and giving up fossil fuel based electricity.
Case 1 – Commercial, Dairy Farm, 100 panels fitted
The solar panel system is set to save the farm £51,826 in electricity bills over the next 25 years, with £91,224 to be fed back into the business over the same period through the government’s feed-in tariff subsidy scheme.
Case 2 – Commercial, Baking Business
A family baking business is cooking up a generous portion of energy set to reduce electricity bills after having solar panels installed. The Hayle premises alone is set to see electricity savings of £24,546 over the next 25 years – as well as feeding cash payments of £32,483 back into the business over the same period through the government’s feed-in tariff subsidy scheme.
Case 3 – Commercial, School
Lancashire school Westholme is leading the way for sustainable schools by generating its own electricity through 9.8Kw of solar panels.Predicted benefits – Electricity savings per year: £551; FIT income per year: £3205; Annual benefit: £4440; TOTAL 25 YEAR BENEFIT £139,510
Case 4 – Commercial, Pountry Farm
We have been chosen as the preferred supplier for a 50kw solar PV system to be installed on a barn building at a poultry farm in Nantwich, Cheshire. Predicted benefits – Electricity savings per year: £3427; FIT income per year: £14,095; Annual benefit: £17,522; TOTAL 25 YEAR BENEFIT £551,280
Case 5 – residential
A St Austell couple are looking on the bright side after reducing their energy bills by installing solar panels on the roof of their home. They are now set to save £194 a year on energy bills and receive cash back from their energy supplier of around £442 a year through the government’s feed-in tariff scheme.
